Highlight of the evening Congresswoman Maxine Waters received her “Chairman’s Award” with the most compelling speech of the night. Auntie Maxine as we like to call her let it be known who was in charge. Below is recorded brief excerpt of her speech:
It is indeed an honor to hold the “Chairwoman’s Gavel” and yes I got the gavel and I’m not afraid to use it. This month the CEO of Wells Fargo one of the largest banks in this country with a egregious track record of defunding and defrauding customer testify before my committee we lit him up. Two days ago, that CEO resigned his office…hey I have the gavel and I’m not afraid to use it.
This week I was able to pass out of my committee a comprehensive bill for 13.27 billion in emergency relief to end homelessness in America don’t despair…I have the gavel and I’m not afraid to use it on the same day in my committee I also passed the consumer’s first act for fraudulent payday loan operators, title loan companies & student loan services we know who you are…but I have the gavel and I’m not afraid to use it……
It’s a new day in America: women, people of color, LGBTQ Americans & Millennials have growing power and my committee is a testament to it. We have the gavel and we’re not afraid to use it……to America’s institutions that has historically overlooked women and minorities the jig is up I have created the first sub-committee on diversity & inclusion in the history of the US Congress….
