DEMETRIA J. REVIEW OF THE SHOW "MIND YOUR BUSINESS WITH MAHISHA"!

For the past few weeks, I started watching this new show on the OWN Network called “Mind Your Business w/ Mahisha” which has become my new guilty pleasure. First off, as a Naturalista/Blogger, I spend a lot of time in the hair care isles located in my local Target and/or Wal-Mart stores. Some of the products I know the creators of some are still a mystery. The beginning of the show opens up with insight as to whom the host is & her background. This is when I became aware that Mahisha Dellinger was the creator of the “Curls” line. At this moment I was able to put a face to the name not to mention to see the CEO/Founder is Black Female Entrepreneur.

Mahisha shares her expertise by helping Black Female Entrepreneurs take their business to the next level. As an upcoming Entrepreneur myself, I have the brand developer that challenges me to think outside of the box. Never sell yourself short in business know your worth. The second episode was when I first started watching the show which opens up with Mehgan West a former co-star of the Bad Girls Club. Mehgan rebranded herself by creating a clothing line called 800 West which had received rave reviews via social media as well as attracted client Fashion Nova’s attention. The episode opens up with Mehgan in a financial crisis not having the capital she needs to pay her vendors. Secondly, Mehgan’s relationship with business partner Tanya was in ruin. Next is the first initial meeting between Mehgan & Mahisha to get an understanding as to what exactly is going on with 800 West. The ladies converse for about 5 minutes for Mehgan to explain why she started her company & how much a role her “Bad Girl Image” had played a significant factor why people don’t want to work with her. In the same fashion, this is also the reason why the situation with her business partner is strained. Tanya put her credit on the line for 800 West vendors were looking to sue. Unfortunately, was nonchalant to Tanya’s plight. Later, Mahisha suggested that the ladies should establish a contract furthermore bring in some investors to help out with her clothing brand in order to bring money back to 800 West.

Fast forward, Mahisha set up a meeting for Mehgan and Tanya to sell their pitch to 3 top investors. Mehgan shows up late without her business partner with only 10 mins to spare. Needless to say, this was not a good look to Mahisha. In addition, Mehgan was left scrambling because she’s not fully prepared to speak to the investors on her own without Tanya’s vast knowledge in the Fashion industry. As a matter of fact she brings old samples but as a result, she made it work after she calmed herself down from nervousness.

Given these points, the 3rd episode opens with Gloria Williams who started the foot care product called “Foot Nanny”. This company has a full line of foot care products with recipes that were passed down from her mother that shares a story about Gloria’s life. With one chance meeting with “OPRAH WINFREY” while doing some Freelance work. Oprah was so impressed by the foot service provided by Gloria she then took to social media & shared her favorite things list with the world. “Foot Nanny” was in high in demand just from 1 video tweet by Oprah. That’s all it takes is one opportunity that can change your life.

With the high demand for the “Foot Nanny” Gloria succumb to the challenges of trying to maintain the momentum of all the purchase orders that were coming in rapidly. Gloria did all the production, she had about 4 people doing the labeling, social media posts, packaging together with making several trips to the company who produced her labels for the product. The micro managing has halted the business so much so Gloria missed many opportunities to have her brand sold in 1500 salons. Mahisha suggested a meeting with a co-packer as well as a chemist to assist Gloria’s brand can reach its highest potential. Mahisha provided Gloria tips to negotiating and most importantly ask for what she wants. The lesson is to never sell yourself short. In the next scene what was intriguing Mahisha took Gloria to a flea market to help her sharpen her bargaining/negotiating skills which paid off. The icing on the cake was when Mahisha arranged a meeting with the top executives of Macy’s. This was a dream come true for Gloria because she’s always envisioned her brand being on display at Macy’s.

Episode 5 has to be my favorite episode thus far. Maxie J. a self-taught Fashion Designer has taken the industry by storm. Maxie J. Founder/Creator of Style House has received international attention not to mention she was the only Black designer who headlined Paris Fashion Week. To stay current, Maxie J. wholesales other brands in between a new collection because of the time it takes for production. Maxie does everything from designing, picking out the fabrics, trimming you name it. The store front that houses Maxie’s business doesn’t have the space or capacity to fit 2 new lines she’s creating but also for another company that sells “Grills” (Gold Teeth). Potential customers for Maxie’s business clash with the customers from Gold Teeth LA. Overall this is hurting Maxie’s business because it’s two brands operating in the same building. . Mahisha sat with Maxie J. to inquire about the day-to-day process. On balance, Mahisha instructed Maxie to delegate some of the work load onto her employees. Later in this episode, Mahisha formed a focus group to survey potential customers to get an idea of both companies complimenting each other. In any event, the focus group actually like the idea of high fashion meeting “Grills”. In essence the owner of Gold Teeth LA & Maxie J. parted ways.

In the featured pic shows how things come full circle. Mahisha set up a meeting and introduced Tanya from episode 2 to Maxie J. Two bad situations brought these 2 women together in fashion matrimony. In conclusion, with the partnership between both ladies, Maxie J. was able to start the production on the 2 new lines she was preparing for. Also Maxie J. moved into a much bigger store front that would house all her fashion pieces. I was so excited to see both Tanya & Maxie J. happy with their decision to work together which benefited them equally. Episode 5 displayed women empowering other women.
